Ahmedabad is the capital of the Gujarat state in India and home to an estimated 8.5 million inhabitants, making it one of India's most populous cities. Key industries include textiles, chemicals, machinery, metal products and pharmaceuticals among others. The historic city is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre owing to its densely-packed urban fabric made up of traditional houses, streets and religious sites.

It is putting in place infrastructure such as GIFT city to create the right ecosystem for investors and overseas businesses coupled with conducive state government policies to ease doing business in the city.  Ahmedabad will also be linked by India's first high speed rail network.
