Bengaluru is one of the fastest growing cities in the world with a current estimated population of 14 million and a growth rate of about 3% and is a key industrial and commercial centre in India. The city is home to many information and technology companies, as well as aerospace, pharmaceuticals, electronics, biotechnology and financial services. It is considered as one of the fastest growing cities of the world given its rapid economic growth and thriving tech industry.
The city was able to leverage Assets and Infrastructure like its amenable weather, strategic location and top universities to become the technology hub that it is today. Leveraging on its position as a leading tech hub, the city has also become India's leading start up economy, boasting over 7,000 start ups.
Bengaluru is considered a diverse and vibrant city, attracting young talent from all corners of India. This resulted in rapid urbanization and an overburdening of existing urban systems, as well as the loss of natural environments. As such, the city struggled with Urban Management and Governance. It is estimated that over 65 lakes have been lost entirely over the last 60 years, and 80% of the remaining lakes are polluted and unsuitable for any use. The city is facing a serious water problem, mainly because of a severe drought which has exacerbated its water woes.
