Milan is Italy's leading financial, manufacturing and commercial centre of Italy, and home to the nation's main stock exchange. It is also a major cultural centre and home to several academic institutions. The city has many companies focussed on fashion, textiles, design, chemicals, banking, media and manufacturing. Milan is home to 1.35 million people.
The city aims to become carbon-neutral by 2050, and hopes to cut CO2 emissions by 45% within 2030.
While creating a good quality of life for residents, the city struggles with Investor Attractiveness and has not been able to develop start up ecosystems and business environments as strongly as its European peers. Additionally, the city has the challenge of an ageing population and needs to work to attract young talent. Activities such as developing attractive and affordable places to live and prioritizing job creation and capacity building in future-facing industries like technology and AI will support this.
