Shenzhen is China's third largest city with a population of 17.56 million. It is considered a leading global technology hub owing to the city's entrepreneurial, innovative and competitive culture. High technology, financial services, modern logistics and the cultural sector and key industries for the city. Shenzhen is often seen as a pioneer in high technology including mobile technology, bioengineering, metamaterials and 3D displays.

Shenzhen scores strongly for Investor Attractiveness and is a key destination for foreign investment.

From January to October in 2023, Shenzhen established 6,469 new foreign-funded enterprises, a 69% increase year-on-year. The city is home to one of the largest stock exchanges in the world by market capitalization and the Guangdong Free-Trade Zone, carving a name for itself as a global financial powerhouse.

Where the city has room to improve is in liveability and urban management. Vibrancy, inclusivity, work intensity and cost of living are critical areas of focus for the city to target in order to raise its overall competitiveness.
